No vent stack

We have a Ranch style house built in the 1940's, and has only 1 bathroom. Our toilet sits on top of the waste stack. We have been getting septic odors up through the bathtub, especially after a shower. We did hook a PVC pipe to a small vent coming up out of the ground by the house from the septic line, and run it up the side of the house to above the roof. The vent was welded to the top of the underground line, next to the house. Must be someone tried to release the odor before. It seemed to help some at first. This was about 5 years ago. This was when we had our tank pumped the last time. It seems it is getting a lot stronger now,the odor. Do you think I can put a vent stack, from the side of the waste stack up and through the roof, with a 45 degree angle up and past the toilet. And maybe tie in the shower drain line? Or do I have to move the toilet off the waste pipe? Then extend it like it should be? Or just pumping the septic tank might eliminate the problem for awhile again? I will have to remove the toilet soon anyway to probably replace the wax seal since the contractor installed new tile, and now the toilet drips in the basement. (another Problem).
