Flooded home Wood floor question

Posted by PaulRich on November 19th, 2008 08:17 PM

I have a home in Houston that was flooded from hurricane IKE. The house had atleast 5" of standing water for a few hours. My question is if the natural red oak floor boards and screeds need to be completely removed, or if a heavy dehumidifier will remove the moisture and the floors can be saved. My biggest concern is for the poured tar, in some areas I have exposed the tar and it very brittle. I know I can remove the floor, dry it out, and re-lay eventually. But, will it be OK to dry and refinish without removal?
