Thermofoil cabinets

I have twelve year old Marsh Thermofoil cabinets. The drawers melted next to the oven (BE REALLY CAREFUL IF YOU HAVE A SELF-CLEANING OVEN) and we ordered replacement ones. I am currently doing some research on staining the cabinets as our home will soon be on the market. The replacements are REALLY white and clean looking. The older ones are dingy and dirty around the hardware and where my three children touch them. Household cleaners (409, degreaser, bleach, ammonia) produced no significant improvements. In a magazine (BH&G) that I read at the dentist, Bartley stains were mentioned. Also, an on-line do it yourself forum mentioned oil-based gel stain topped with water-based poly (I assume this is polyurethane). I hope this helps and good luck!
