i am removing paint from baseboards and trim in my house and Ive gotten to the point where ive used the Strip-Kleen product to remove the paint. for the most part it removed all the paint.
Now im at a point where there is a bunch of the old wood stain left on the wood. As much as i try sanding, it just wont come off nicely.
to make matters worse, ive gone through 12 pieces of 60grit sandpaper today, it just gets torn apart.
my question --
is there another chemical i can try to more easily remove the left over stain?
- or -
will i be OK applying my new finish over the existing finish (it will look old, im ok with that) in the state it is in?
- or -
do i just give up on this and install new baseboards and trim.
the tenets who owned my home previous to me painted the trim a hideous shade of light mint green to go along with the purple walls (UGH!) so im up for any suggestions here to make things better. my goal for the baseboards and trim would be to try and bring back the old wood (my house is over 100 yrs old) and apply a stain, id rather not paint.
