Refinishing stained kitchen cabinets Posted by Scorekeeper on December 2nd, 2008 02:34 PM
Our kitchen cabinets were installed when we built our home in 1986. They are oak, and have been stained with what I can only best describe as a translucent or opaque very light blue or gray stain, then finished with whatever was used as a top coat. In general, the cabinets are in great shape, except that there is no hardware to open them, but rather indentations where the user can open a drawer or door, such as under a drawer or door face.
Where that high volume of touching has taken place, the top coat and some of the stain have worn away to a degree. What we’d like to do is refinish and restain them as close to what they originally were as possible, but are getting conflicting advice. Can we get some help here? Was this post helpful? Yes: or No:
