There should be a box on either rail. They sense if anything is blocking the door and stops the automatic downward movement. Either the two boxes aren't aligned properly or something is blocking them. Be sure to check the wires and connections too. Depending on the model there are ways to get them talking again if they were knocked out of place. For that help you need to post the make and model numbers.
