free standing bathroom vanity

Posted by launag on January 4th, 2009 10:09 AM

I purchased a free standing vanity for a powder room remodel. The baseboard in this room is a one by six. The design of the vanity prevents it from resting flush against the wall (the baseboard stops it) resulting in a gap against the back wall. The design of the bathroom and the vanity prevents it from resting flush against the wall on one side (again the baseboard). I am unfamiliar with the use of these vanities and have never seen one installed. My question is this; is it okay to have the vanity approximately one inch away from the wall along the back and on one side? What does one do about water splashing on the painted drywall, etc.? If it is not okay, what should be done? The legs on this cabinet make it difficult to cut out the pattern in the baseboard.
