Incomplete info on Kenmore model 790xxx Posted by svflorance on January 5th, 2009 09:30 AM In reply to Incomplete information by DanO on January 4th, 2009 05:37 PM [Go to top of thread]
Sorry about that. I made a (wrong) asusmption that one smooth top model 790 was like another. The full model number is: 790.96613409, and the unit is unplugged at the moment.....but I "think" the read out was: "F31 Err". The alarm was a regular, unending beeping sound. It would go away when I cleared in on the control panel. I don't "think" it ever terminated a cooking process, but on several occasions it would trigger when we tried to set a Bake function, and would trigger right when we pressed the Bake button itself, and before any associated Temp was selected. When that happened, I cleared it and tried to, say, turn on a cook top element...no problem...and then, say, the broiler function...again...no problem, and THEN went back to the bake function and it would start the baking process as it's supposed to.
At other times (most of our experience with it) we're not using the unit at all, and it will spontaneously trigger. I clear it as always, and it's usually not too long before it will trigger again. At this point, we throw the breaker when we're not using it, and then turn it back on, set the clock and use it when we needed....not a good thing I admit.
My wife is gluten intolerant so eating out is almost impossible, and our range is her main tool for survival these days. One incidental issue that might be relevant; we live in an area in Indianapolis that's given to periodic current "blips" in the power grid...either surges or sudden off/on outages. They've cost me a control board on my HVAC and a wireless router for my computer. We've learned how to reset the clocks on everything in the house. In the recent past, however, and before this particular problem with the range started, we noticed that there were times when ONLY the range seemed to have experienced this kind of "blip" because the clock would require setting and there would be a power outage code in the display. Hope that gives you what you need. Thanks for the help. If you need anything else, including a phone #, please let me know.
Thanks,
