Ripped out old possible asbestos flooring :(

Posted by cwbetb on January 12th, 2009 11:16 AM

I am a bit freaked out. I bought some new vinyl flooring for my kitchen that was built in the mid 60's. My father inlaw was going to help me out with the project and started early before I came home from work. I came home to witness him tearing ALL the old vinyl flooring out of my kitchen "4 layers worth", I helped him pull off the last few chunks and helped him throw the old flooring in his truck. Now I am reading online that my old floor most likely contained asbestos! The room was not totally covered in dust but it did have some debree.

My question, I know the damage is done and I might have taken 20 years off of my life, but what can I do to clean the house of lingering acbestos? I went over the whole house with a wet rag and cleaned everything I could. I am afraid my wife and future child "she is pregnant" will suffer the same fate as me! :(

My father in law just blew it off saying yep it probabaly did contain it, oh well :O My parents also are telling me they chisled off old piping containing it and they are still alive in the late 60's :O

Help! Am I going to die!
