If you are handy enough to repair the holes then you can...probably be easiest to do another texture though and not try to get them completely smooth and 'perfect'
To give you an idea..I did it (in a former house) by getting drywall mud and putting a light coat on with a 4"-6" putty knife/scraper/spreader in say a 2x2 section then 'combed' the surface with just a regular hair comb in different directions and angles. once it was dry I just lightly knocked down the "peaks" that were more pronounced than the rest and painted. Voila!
