Every contractor who's been in the painting business for any amount of time has experienced a problem with probably every paint they've used.
I'm a store manager of a S-W store, and I would return any quantity of defective paint at any dollar amount without any problem. However, most S-W stores turn their inventory about 4 times per year, so other than missing a (rare occurence) recall, most all products should be in perfect condition. Quality Control at S-W is unsurpassed.
As you said, the best advice to someone experiencing odor, sagging, etc... definitely top it and bring it back to the store... then go to S-W. :-)
Regarding label directions, PLEASE read them... ONLY because most people assume they know enough to just slap paint on the walls... but things people might not realize are things like: Apply a bleach and water mix over mildew to kill it, clean off the residue, (WAIT FOR IT TO DRY)then prime with a water based stain blocking primer, and topcoat with water based paint. Why water based? It's more permeable if there is trapped moisture - to help prevent lifting. And definitely when in doubt, call. Sherwin-Williams prides itself on its slogan, "Ask Sherwin-Williams."
Our staff literally LOVES answering paint questions. Come on in to our stores or call today. 1-800-4-SHERWIN Was this post helpful? Yes: or No:
