Black Tar on Hard Wood Posted by David Scott on April 8th, 2009 12:58 PM In reply to black tar paper stuck to hardwood by Greg on October 14th, 2003 04:48 PM [Go to top of thread]
After you get a system down this works pretty quickly compared to the other posts that I have read here. I purchased
a fabric steamer for around $30 made by Conair. It produces a constant, gentle steam. Start at the wall and do two boards at a time. Let the steamer heat up the adheasive at the end of the board
untill the glue starts turning yellow..
and stinky.. it smells bad. move the head of the steamer slowly away from where you started. Using a dull metal scraper, easily push the tar off of the wood. When all the black is up, steam the two boards again and use a old rag to wipe up the nasty glue that remains. It took Two Hours to do a 4X8 secttion wilh little effort. Was this post helpful? Yes: or No:
