You do not provide anywhere enough information to link your black dust problem to your roof ventilation, coal dust, or anything else.

What type heat do you currently have?

Is it OIL?

A badly adjusted oil furnance or boiler can produce the symptoms you describe.

Where are you located?

Are you in a city near and indistrial plant?

On a farm where soil erosion is an issue?
