Hello,

I hoping someone can help me out with this problem. I was running cable for recessed lighting when my 90 degree drill attachment broke. Rather then do the smart thing and run out and buy a new attachment I drilled the holes low on the joist, about an inch from the bottom on 4 joists I later learned that the holes needed to be in the center for 2 reasons; one to protect the cable and two drilling to low weakens the joints. The first issue is easy to fix, I just drill new holes higher up and re-run the cable. The second problem I have no idea how to rectify. Do I buy steal plates and install them over the holes? The joists are 2 x 8’s so a 1 inch hole may have no negative impact but I’m just not sure.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
