no...the carpet will just pull off the tacks...
the tack strip is nailed in place with the tacks pointing up then the carpet is stretched tight over it then trimmed.
You should just be able to pull the carpet up and then remove the tack strip with the claw part of a hammer --no crowbar needed :)
