So it did work? And held up? A friend has suggested that too

and I'm going to try it, but only because gutting the bathroom is just not in the cards, or budget, at the moment. Since I can manage, one way or the other, to get to the bottom area of the tub I'm going to shim up the floor to give the tub proper support with plywood or whatever fits and then shoot some of the foam I have for window and door replacement in there. That should cushion and support the tub to prevent any further cracking. I know the patch won't be perfect but as long as it holds for a few years it's worth trying.

Like many things in this house, the previous owners tried, but failed due to lack of experience or money. Now it's up to me to make things right. It's not cheap or fun to re-do things they goofed up but it's time and money well spent in the end.

Thanks for letting me know that patch worked for you. I'll spend the small amount to try it.
