I am putting down solid 3/4 beech wood flooring in my kitchen which is over an insulated and dry walled garage below . I have been placing 15#tar paper as specified in flooring installation in all the other rooms .

My question is; Should I also place the tar paper in the kitchen where the greater chance of water or on the floor would be by a leak or spill from dishwasher or sink is greater than moisture infiltration from the garage below. I image the tar paper would keep the water under the hardwood longer rather than it absorbing into the plywood and draining away.

Also, second part. In some places the gap between t&G of the flooring is not tight. How can I fill the gaps before or during the application of the finish sealer so that they are not noticeable
