We had underfloor radiant heat installed in our new home 2 years ago. The piping is attached directly to the subfloor above without plates, and we are very satisfied with it. Two hints: use a reputable, experienced installer, and be sure to put thermostats in every living area. The savings on radiant heating have been substantial so far. Good luck.
