Hi M.Logan The best way would be to stain/finish natural wood then install it after painting. But if the wood to be naturally finished is already up, then I would stain/finish, let dry and cure (a week or so), then mask it off and paint. Accidentally applied stain/finish can be painted over, but paint on clear wood cannot be stained/finished without removing the paint on it first.
