My mother put a semi-gloss finish on an ornate, oak mirror about 30 yrs. ago. I really prefer satin finishes; however, I have no idea if what is now on the mirror is regular varnish or a polyurethane. The finish is in perfect shape; just too shiny. Could I use a spray satin of either type of varnish right on top of this old semi-gloss? Thanks in advance to all of you.
