Knotty pine Kitchen cabinets

Yesterday we had a beattiful armstrong faux wood floor put in our kitchen. The problem is it is much too light for our 1950's knotty pine cabinets. oops! We are thinking of refinshing them Does anyone out there have any words of wisdom on painting or refinishing cabinets. Thank you! Sue
