you are best off ripping up the subfloor and the vinyl at the same time. It makes the best job to start with a new subfloor and doesn't cost a whole lot more, odds are you won't get all the glue off without ripping the subfloor all to pieces. Not only that but the time involved with trying to salvage the subfloor is not worth it.
