repair of toilet pipes leaking...connecting to a pipe for septic tank

looking for help on a pipe that appears to go straight up...old owner apparently curved the pipe by bending it..appears to be rubber piping but may be cheap pvc or something...two girls here trying to figure this out. we know what the problem is we are not sure of the pipe going straight up.

if you can help maybe with some type of diagram and explaining what that pipe is and what it is for we would appreciate it...
