I'm with ron and suzanne on pergo. But if you want it, your post title is correct that it is a floor "covering". As long as you are prepared to replace it like carpet or vinyl when it goes bad then go for it since it is your nickle. Install a mud and snow scraper outside, leave a broom out there for wiping off snow, and use rugs outside for wiping feet will help. Use a rubber backed rug on the pergo so water doesn't soak in. Wipe up water spills asap so no standing water is left on it. I wouldn't be afraid to put it in a bathroom knowing it may have to be replaced eventually.
