Tile floor around fireplace

I just moved into my first house and one of my first projects will be re-tiling the floor around my fireplace. I have two questions:

1) Since the surrounding HW floors need to be re-finished as well, should I replace the tiles first, or have the floors done first?

2) Does anyone know a good book/website for tile beginners?
