I have two greyhounds and one laminate floor in my kitchen. My dogs took a long time adjusting to the floor because every time they would get excited about going outside they would look like ametuer ice skaters running across it, it's very slippery to them. I didn't think I had a problem with the toenail issue, until the first time I washed it. When it's wet I can see a lot of scratches on the surface of the floor but when it dries they are invisible. So, therefore I don't think it's a problem. By the way... I sell floor covering for a living, both carpet and hard surfaces.
