This doesn't answer your question but for what it is worth deals with a floor I walked on today. It was a new formica brand laminate installed on a plastic type barrier covered with styrofoam looking white dots. I've never seen this plastic barrier stuff before but walking around on the floor sounded like rubbing two pieces of styrofoam together (squeek, squeek).
