Sears Craftsman 1/2hp Garage Door Opener Stopped Working

Unit is about six years old.
Basically, it has stopped working.
When I press the button on the wall, it makes
a whirring sound, and the green light on the
back of the unit lights up, as does the main light.
But NO ACTION. I wonder if I need to replace the
circuit board on it, as the chains and connections
appear to be good. I have reset the handheld openers
to be in sync with the unit, but it still does not
open the door. This just occurred out of the blue.
