First of all, let me congratulate (and envy) you for buying a real 1903 Victorian. IMHO, a metal roof would be an excellent replacement for your deteriorated cedar shingles and, yes, tin was certainly used in the Victorian period. I looked on the 'net to find an example of a Victorian tin roof and found one at http://www.form-and-substance.com/slumgullion/text/cupola.shtml That's one example. Another suggestion would be to look up the *Savannah House* at the This Old House web site http://www.pathfinder.com/TOH/ (sorry, Bob) -- lots of info about metal roofs!
