Make sure your flashing goes up under the existing house siding and building wrap/tar paper. Also, I would make sure that you use proper "hurricane ties" throughout the structure. These will insure that in case of high winds (or earthquake) that your structure won't go bye-bye. There are probably very specific codes in your town/county that you should lookup.
