If all else fails I have found that acetone is usually a decent solvent for wax. You need to confirm first that it doesn't melt or discolor your carpet. Try the iron thing first and if it doesn't do it then try acetone in a closet or on a left over remanent to make sure it doesn't ruin the carpet.
