I'm with Steve. Put the horse in "front" of the cart and paint before putting up the metal. Who likes to mask anyway and then have to edge around it with a brush. Roll it on a couple inches or so above where the metal will go. Masking and edging the paint may still show a crack of unpainted wall somewhere.
