Replacing a ceiling fan with a light fixture only.

We removed the ceiling fan in our bedroom and have decided to
just install a ceiling light fixture. We have 2 black wires, 2
white wires and a green ground wire from the ceiling fan. We have
tried various combinations of connections to the light fixture and
we either have a light that comes on with the breaker and won't turn
off at the switch or nothing. Any suggestions would be much
appreciated. Do we just need to use one set of black/white wires?
Both? How do we tell which goes to the switch and where do the other
wires go? Help! It's getting dark!
