I have an AO Smith, model #: PEC 52, 50 gallon electric hot water tank with 1500 watt upper element and a 1000 watt lower element. I have determined that the lower element is defective. Can I safely upgrade the lower element to a higher wattage(2000 watts) as long as the element is rated for 240 volts?
