Replacement windows Posted by John 2000 on January 4th, 2001 02:31 PM In reply to Pros & Cons of Fiberglass replacement windows by Rick on January 4th, 2001 01:14 PM [Go to top of thread]
Hi, Rick, First big question," has the Salesperson ever painted the widows they are trying to sell you" Normaly Fiberglass never needs painting, the color is already in the f/g as it is being molded. The female mold is first coated with a nonstik type of polish ( gell), then another type of gell is used on the male mold, and the the glass is laid to the thickness required. Maybe the salesperson, is thinking of drawn pvc plastic which is used here in Europe a lot.(and the color is in the material) so it never has tobe painted. Now dont get me wrong, plastic windows are very good and the insulation fator is unbeatable, but make sure of the color first............. As for the old woodern windows ( frames/sashs ) if you are carefull, and take them out without damage I'm sure you will get a buyer for them, because they are hard to come by, ( I know of only two guys who can make theses windows. one guy as old as dirt and myself.) so before you sign anything make sure its what you want color wise.......... have fun out there.
