I have used Wonderboard, but only when going over linoleum. It helps to level the floor out. I would imagine that plywood would work as well and it may be less expensive than Wonderboard at about $9 for a 3x5 sheet. Wonderboard, however, does a real good job of taking out the dips and humps in your floor
