Tack strip is used on the tred and riser, and stretching is required. I would say though that a carpet install on stairs might be left up to a pro, not because you are not capible but because it is the stairs and if it gives way when someone is going down, it won't be good. My opinion only. I can give you great details on this installation if you request so, post back if you have good insurance, and want the info. Jim
