It depends upon soil conditions. It could settle until the soil is compacted enough to hold the weight. On solid rock, it won't settle at all and in the Everglades or some other swamp, it may eventually sink out of sight. You will need some soil cores drilled out of the ground and then have an engineer have a lab do some soil compaction studies. This studies are done before any big buildings are built. Some soils need piles driven before they will support the weight. Good luck.
