Ghosts wouldn't surprise me. I do know the heat ducts make some noise, especially in one section of the living room floor when you walk on it. It does almost sound like it could be loose. Of course it is covered in the basement by ceiling tiles, so a quick easy inspection is not possible, besides.....It could be where the ghost lives:)
