My outdoor posts are made of 6x6 doug-fir w/36" x 8 ft. wrought-iron between them. The top cap is made of 2x6 redwood. I have stained the posts and top cap over the last 5 years leaving the wrought-iron alone with the factory black enamel finish. I want to paint ALL of it the same color now. Some of the 6x6 posts have cracks in them. I was going to fill the cracks with "fix-all" then prime and paint. The "fix-all" is for interior use only.
What should I use to fill the cracks and any recommendations on what primer I should use on the wood as well as the metal? I don't want the old stain to bleed thru after all this painting.
