Step into the light, and I may be able to tell you how its done... Posted by John 2000 on February 11th, 2001 03:07 PM In reply to Removing metal doorway frames without damagin the wall beneath by Shai on February 11th, 2001 09:01 AM [Go to top of thread]
Hi", Shai, What Steve has told you is what I would have told you, so I cant add much more, only that, when the bricklayer builds the wall the frames are already in place and so the bricky fits the brick into the hollow of the frame, some times there are clips welded on to the frame ( on the inside ) and are used to hold the frame in place, and some times not. just take your time and it should come out easy, .. One problem you may have is that on the bottom of the frame there could be a metal strip that holds the frame open and most times the strip is below the finished floor level, so chip some of the cement away and have a look, if there is a strip then you can cut it with a cold chisel ( close to the frame ) and do the same on the other side ( this way you will only have a small hole to fill ( both sides) but I dont think you will be lucky to find a prehung door and frame the same size as the opening, if not then you can fill in the space with foam ( building foam ) it comes in a can and you spray it into the space,it will fill up and it will expaned ( you will think my god what have I done) but dont worry, let it dry ( go hard) and you can just cut it away with a knife, .........have fun John 2000
