that fits in the center track on top that holds the doors shut when both fully shut.
The spring puts a bind on the doors to keep them shut then when needed to open, they easily uncock and open.
Sounds like this piece is missing.
Then there is a metal bracket mounted on the top of the doors on the inside that mesh together when closed to keep them closed. This is only found on older bi fold doors.
