Provides a good bonding surface for the thinset and tile. BUT cement board does not provide much to the floor in the way of rigidity. Take a straightedge, measure how much the floor deflects over the 16 inch centers with a 200 lb load. If it deflects more than .040 inches, you need to reinforce from underneath or add additional subflooring. Dodgeman
