Soundproofing certain walls in an apt. Posted by Shai Moschowits on February 20th, 2001 08:19 PM
Hi all, My apartment shares 3 walls with the elevator shaft of my bldg (1 Wall at the entrance to the apt., 1 wall at the foyer, and 1 wall in the closet of my bedroom). Although these 3 walls are solid concrete, I still hear the thumping of the elevator doors closing, and the hum of the elevator motor going up and down. Can anyone please recommend a course of action for soundproofing this (at least in the bedroom) ? I was thinking of laying material and then drywall on top of it. Would this solve my problem ? Does anyone know where I can buy the material, and what is the absolute best product. I would say the sound is mostly mid and low range frequencies (since most of it is muffled by the concrete walls)- and i understand that these frequencies are harder to stifle. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Please email nyshai@yahoo.com as well as post. Thanks Shai
