Ellwood Blues in the Blues Brothers movie had a fix for those elevators. That said, just shut the elevator off before going to bed and make everyone use the stairs. They probably all need the exercise anyway. Hope you aren't in the empire state building. You might have to change apartments or get your rent lowered. Good luck.
