Sears Craftsman Garage Door Opener (Remotes)

My neighbor and I have the same Craftsman 1/2 HP garage door openers. We are having the same problem with our remotes. I can program one of my remotes to open and close the door, but the second one will not work. Then I can program the second one to open/close the door, and the first one stops working. He has the same problem. My garage is on the south part of my house and his is on the north(closest parts of the two houses). Does this have anything to do with our problem(s) or do we just not know how to reprogram our remotes? And if it is the latter, how do you program the second remote without having to remove all of the codes from the receiver?
