I took up an asphalt walk a few years ago, and it was not at all easy. I finally wound up putting a little gasoline on it to soften it; otherwise I would not have been able to break it. I would consider hiring a backhoe for a minimal amount and having the operator dig it out and truck it off. You might get off for $300 if you shop around. Whe you call, know the dimensions and the thickness. Get the latter from digging an edge. If you had topsoil delivered, or whatever, you could get it spread at the same time.
