I live in a split level with a added garage. When they put the addition on the house they removed the sump pump from the basement into the garage with french drains under the garage leading into the sump pump. these drains never full up with water but the sump does and it then empties into the side yard of my home. And this is were the problem begins. about 40 to 50 feet from the side of my house is an area of wet lands. Also, let me explain that we have a sloped driveway with a storm sewer drain in it that seems to feed the sump pump very well in the rain Well what happens when the heavy rains come, is that side yard fills up with water and the pump keeps filling it in. The pump is now emptying above ground and I have had a quote of some one burying it under ground about 2 feet and taking it out into the wet area. My only concern is that if I do this what will happen when the power goes out and the pump will not work. Is there anyway I can use french drains, in conjuction with the pump to help move the water when the pump is not working. I live south of Boston. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
