If Steve and Jay's ideas don't work, there is another way to go. If soldering the switch is too much for you, look around for a small appliance or lawn mower repair shop that will do the work. They might have the switch from the actual mower manufacturer or you might have to buy it from Sears, but someone around can probably be talked into doing the repair.
