Dean, if you're not cutting crown molding, which requires a compound cut, it is possible to use a circular saw. I've done it, but I've also noticed that my accuracy suffers and a lot of painters putty is needed. If you don't want to spend the money for a saw, use a coping saw. You'll get a much more accurate cut and since it's slower, you won't make near the mistakes you would with a power saw.
